Dachigam National Park, just outside Srinagar, is a haven for wildlife lovers. The upper and lower Dachigam are spread over an area of 141 Sq. Kms altitudes vary between 1700 & 4300 mtrs. The Dagwan stream flows from Marsar Lake (4300 mtr.) through lower Dachigam,
Dachigam is home to famous stag, “Hangul” or Barasingha (Gunes Cervus), revived from the last phase of extinction, Hangul is marked as the animal of the state. The century also protects brown and black bears, leopards, musk deers, marmots & various birds species. a tiny zoo in the park sometimes present leopards and a bear in the cage.
Dachigam forest lodge and the state guest house is favorite among the state VIP’s & for official events. Passes how to be obtained from the wild life office warden at Gupkar Road on boulevard.
