Nilnag is a short trek of 4Kms. to Nilnaag a small lake amidst pine trees, near a hamlet give an ultimate pleasure to visitors.  Its a nearest offbeat place from Srinagar Kashmir, Just 35 kms away, Located in district Budgam of Jammu and Kashmir, by car or taxi from Srinagar. The roads have recently been reconstructed, however, at certain places, the roads may be uneven. One can consider it a day trip or picnic. The Lake got it’s name due to deep blue color of its water (Nilnag) means “Blue Spring” there are some water activities also available now a days. There is a small tea stall also where you could enjoy a cup of a tea & maggie. The lake is famous for its turquoise water. The route from Yousmarg is rather difficult and unmotorable and goes through a dense forest.

Eric-Bisco-Grave

The lake was Eric Biscoe’s favourite destination. Biscoe (died in 1949), who was the founder of Tyndal Biscoe school in Jammu and Kashmir, wanted to be buried by the lake side. To honour his wishes, his ashes were brought and buried there and there is a burial stone situated on bank side.  If you visit this place it is best to do little trek towards mountains side to see meadows of flowers there are several wild flower varieties which adds the beauty to it and some wild barriers one should try juicy barriers during visit which has many health benefits.

The best time to visit is May to Oct every year during that time you will witness many people enjoy fishing on the shore of the springs. Nilnag is most visited place by natives and locals of the valley.
