An extension of the Dal, the Nageen Lake is located to the east of the city, at the foothill of the mountain Zabarwan and can be reached by road or by Shikara. The Nageen is the smallest and deepest part of the Dal and is essentially a quieter, cleaner and some say more beautiful version of the main lake. It also houses Kashmir’s famous houseboats and is perfect for those who find the hustle bustle and horns of the Boulevard a little overwhelming. The Nageen Club rests on its banks, you can lunch here, take tea and snacks and sometimes an occasional art exhibition. On the edges of the Nageen Lake are a number of Kashmir’s famous willow and poplar trees. Bathing boats as well as water- skis and motor launches are also available for hire at the lake.
