Road used by Mughals to conquer Kashmir is between Poonch in Jammu division and Shupiyan in Kashmir division. This road used to be a major trade link for the Kashmir, Jammu and Lahore during pre-partition era, it originated from Mughal capital Agra (UP). 84km long that passes over Pir Panjal Mountain range, at altitude of 3505m.
The reopening of this road has reduced the distance from Poonch to Srinagar from 588km to 126km. The distance from Kashmir valley to Poonch & Rajauri has shortened to jus 76km. The road passes through famous Baflaiz pass (39km east of Poonch).
The name Baflaiz is said to be after the favorite horse ‘Bunifales’ of Alexander the great, who is believed to have died at the pass. The road has some most fascinating pristine forts, Sarais and tombs that were constructed on the route by the travelers and the emperors.
