Ali Masjid (at Eidgah) by Ahanger HOBO.
Ali Masjid was built by Ali Shah’s son of Sultan Sikander and is located at the modern day Eidgah (Eidgah denoting a ground where Eid prayers are offered). The mosque was built next to a fertile grazing ground as a necessity for the yaks and horses of the trans-Himalyan caravans that would cross the Kashmir Valley. The people of the carvanassi could offer prayers and converse in a community as their animals munched and gained strength. Located near here in Safa Kadal (the 7th bridge) was the Ladakh Sarai and the Kargil Sarai (or the Yarkand Sarai depending on sources). A Sarai was a place which would provide rooms and kitchens to the travelling wilburys of the great Himalayan caravans and was also a great spot to facilitate trade.
